Older CD recordings (and often the better ones) made with so-called emphasis, are taken care of automatically by providing the correct de-emphasis.
The DICHRONO HI·DAC sports another feature that will become indispensable once one has made a point of regularly using it : it is the possibility to invert the digital phase by remote control. If not
overly miked or processed, recordings will clearly prove to sound better in phase, ie with the membrane of the speakers moving in the same direction as the membrane of the microphone(s) during the recording.
Powering up the DICHRONO HI·DAC already gives an excellent preview of all the design considerations that have gone into the analog preamp section. In order to avoid loud start-ups, the motorized volume knob, with mute automatically switched on, slowly moves towards zero and then after a pause moves to a slightly open position, ready for listening and further adjustment of the volume either by remote control or manually. Pressing the volume up or down button on the remote for more than 5 seconds will speed up adjustment.
Once the analog source that can be hooked up to the DICHRONO HI·DAC is selected, the digital circuits are muted, excluding all unwanted interference. To provide linkage with the widest possible range of power amplifiers, an internal switch (jumper) allows to halve the output level.
On the other hand, the DICHRONO HI·DAC can also just as well be used together with a separate preamplifier. An internal switch (jumper) changes the variable output into a fixed level one.
It would make a long list to mention all the technical refinements and details of the circuitry. Each component has been carefully selected to contribute to the superb overall performance and provide a high degree of reliability (such as a very high tolerance towards mains voltage fluctuations). Easily
recognizable are the screened BNC connector and the ensemble Synergia RCA sockets, whose central parts are made of copper to give a three and a half times higher electrical conductivity.
A natural recommendation will be the use of ensemble cables. They are fitted with connectors matching the quality of the sockets and, thanks to their special film shield screening technology, provide the kind of environment for the signals to arrive clean and undisturbed, which has always been the basis of good natural sound.
Open for the future in the digital domain, extremely flexible in the analog division, and with the powerful quality of good CD sound as never before, the DICHRONO HI·DAC also presents itself as a piece of modern-classic styling, marrying form and function.
The DICHRONO HI·DAC – a faithful musical companion for many years to come.
